Announcement    Hi, I'm Sophie. Welcome and thanks for visiting North Crow Studio. Those of you who have visited before will no doubt notice that I've changed the name of my shop. The change reflects the evolution of my creative vision. That means that in the coming months I intend to expand my offerings to include more than fiber arts for little ones and my original photo cards. 2012 feels full of creative possibilities, and I look forward to sharing my expanded offerings with you. Now for a little bit about the way I approach my art...

I use my camera to record the unadorned and perfectly beautiful essentialness of people and things, and the frequently overlooked but rich details all around us. In this way my photography strives to permeate artificial thresholds. There is an earthy groundedness in my work that comes from my own sense of reverence for the natural world. Whether composing portraits, professional headshots, nature shots or fine art images, I prefer to use available, ambient light, relying on onboard or speed light fill only when absolutely necessary.

I bring a similar earthy and rooted approach to my fiber and seam creations as well, using available materials to produce simple, classic, usable accessories.

My business model, while still evolving, is supple and responsive. I seek to do the work that I love while offering an encompassing range of image craft services that include wall art, evocative photo quote greeting cards, book plates, gift tags, package design, product and food photography, calendars, portraits and headshots. I am currently looking into expanding my product line to include photo transfer to textiles, too. It is essential that my business be human-scaled and always localized, with as much of the work completed in-house or in the local community as possible.

North Crow Studio, formerly Gleangenie, has come to include textiles and fiber arts in addition to image arts. For me, creating with my hands is a gratifying spiritual act. Photography is a dance with the sublime. If I’m succeeding in my craft, my passion and admiration for my subjects is palpable within my work.

Again, welcome to my shop, North Crow Studio. I'm so glad you stopped by.

All card images are available as enlargements, so if you see something you'd like to frame, convo me.
